Cartridge Shure set up

First of all, happy new year ! Health and hapiness for you and your family & friends.

I have a simple question regarding the Shure set up. On the back of the cartridge with the metal piece fixing the cartridge, do we have to insert the cartridge above the edge or wedged by that lip ?

Not easy to explain, let me show with two pictures. Thanks in advance for your help.

This one seems to be hooked up correctly at the back, is it hooked up at the front?

Yes the cartridge is fixed on both sides, front and back. For your information the gauge delivered with the Thorens is very useful and easy to use if you have to setup a new cartridge. Thanks

Fintanto che non sarà modificato non lasciarlo collegato al sistema mentre ascolti il CD: peggiorerebbe l'ascolto

As long as it is not modified, do not leave it connected to the system while listening to the CD: it will worsen the listening experience.

Anche io ho recentemente ricomprato un 126 (Mk3) in quanto è stato il mio primo giradischi "serio".
Assolutamente, confermo che se lasci il 126 originale connesso all'impianto, puoi scordarti di ascoltare bene: il peggioramento è così vistoso da far passare la voglia di ascoltare musica dall'impianto.

Why don't you use a PS1020? Sure it's the best possible way if you look for best sound quality.

You'll need the mat (and its metal ring) + the 45rpm adapter of the PS1020 on the Thorens once it's been modified...

One thing you can remove from the turntable in the meantime and get a pretty audible improvement is the 45rpm adapter of the Thorens (which you can then put in a drawer to avoid spurious vibrations)

Already done (Ps1020 mat, 45 trs adapter), thanks. Sounds good even if I’m not totally satisfied: is it due to the fact that the Thorens is not a direct drive ? I find a lake of rythm, a lake of groove

No, it is due to the lack of CCI

Hai senz'altro ragione, dal momento che ad oggi il mio 126 non suona un granché
Mi viene comunque da dire che dipende molto da come si agisce sulla scheda frontale e sui due pannelli di alluminio: al momento mi risultano un problema insolubile... Ma sicuramente per te non lo sono

Stai percorrendo il "sentiero di Filippo" Ale ?

Come sai, ogni tanto sperimento delle piccole modifiche da molto prima di Filippo.
Tuttavia le mie (al contrario delle sue) non sono segrete, sono ripetibili e (purtroppo) hanno sempre risultati molto più modesti rispetto a Grundig (ed LT)

Hello, I acquired a PS1020 with an M95 cartridge and I want to mount an M91MG (same format as the M85G). I believe that the M85G mount on the PS1020 headshell uses a small spacer, as shown in Massimo's photo. Can you confirm this, and does anyone have one?

Finally, I bought a PS1020 with the M85G cartridge, unfortunately the signal level is very low… I have to increase dramatically the power button on the amplifier. Do you think that a cartridge can get old ? The needle is perfect of course. Last question can I replace the M85G with the M91MG on a Ps1020 with the same result ? Thanks in advance
